The Craft and Hobby Association established Craft Month in 1994. This month is intended to help everyone rediscover the pleasure of making, this month is dedicated to discovering new crafts, discovering a new favorite handy activity, or even rediscovering an old favorite. March is the month to sit down and learn a hobby your senior loves to do, and how companion care at home providers can help your senior enjoy this new activity.
If a senior is struggling to get around to the craft store and you don’t always have the time to stop by and help them, you need to consider alternative options. It’s okay if you can’t always help a senior because companion care providers are great options for your loved one. Companion care at home can easily help a senior age in place and take them to run errands. This may include stopping by the hobby store to pick up items for a senior to start up their hobbies again.
Have you been looking for new hobbies to do with your seniors? Here are a few ideas to help get you started during the national crafting month.
Paint By Numbers
Thinking of something to paint by yourself can be exceptionally hard to do. However, there are tons of paint by numbers that a senior can get at the hobby store. They come as easy paintings for beginners or challenging images too. A senior needs to have a magnifying glass for the more challenging paintings. Each number will be present on the canvas for the seniors to paint. They may need a separate bundle of brushes to complete this. It may also take several days or weeks to finish.
Custom Puzzles
If you want to surprise your seniors this March, hop online and create a customized puzzle for them. You can use a picture of the entire family and make a puzzle. This is something your seniors will love and cherish. It may take them a few days to finish depending on the difficulty.
Yarn Weaving
This is the best time to learn a new skill or brush up on something you may already know. Yarn weaving will allow seniors to make hats, dream catchers, blankets, and more. It all depends on how much time they want to put into something. If this is something they haven’t yet done, there are plenty of online tutorials that could help them learn this new hobby.
At Home Pottery
Right now, there are tons of ways to order pottery kits at home. If you have been looking for an inside activity with your seniors, making pottery dishes like bowls, plates, or even cups can be fun to do together. It may require you to heat and dry in an oven which your senior may need help with. It will depend on what type of kit you purchase.
Another option is going to a local pottery shop and buying premade items and instead of painting them. Many local shops will send you home with items and paints to do at home. You can paint them together and then drop them off to be fired up and glazed over.
